In America, the early performing arts accomplishments of young Maureen FitzSimons (who we know as Maureen O'Hara) would definitely have put her in the category of child prodigies. But for a young Irish girl surrounded with gifted parents and extended family, these characteristics were a naturally. Maureen was born in Ranelagh - a suburb of Dublin the capital of Ireland on 17 August 1920. Her mother, Marguerita Lililburn FitzSimons an accomplished contralto. Charles FitzSimons ran a Dublin business, and held shares of the Irish Shamrock Rovers soccer club. Maureen was the second of six FitzSimons children - Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen was a star athlete and loved rough games. Her natural ability to perform was the perfect match for her interest in athletics. That was apparent that she was the winner of each Feis for drama and theater the Irish had to provide. By age 14 she was accepted to the highly acclaimed Abbey Theater and pursued her dreams of classical theatre and operatic singing.
