American actor and musician Awkwafina made her debut with humorous rap tracks that tackled racial identity and sexuality with an incisive and humorous perspective, before broadening her reach to Hollywood. Nora Lum began her musical journey as a trumpet player. Born in Forest Hills Queens, she was the daughter of Chinese immigrants and Koreans. Later, she began hip-hop and classical training. When she was in college, she focused on her studies. She took up a degree in women's studies as well as journalism.
